The latest rumours circling the dragons nest are that Microsoft Xbox Exclusive Scalebound may be on track to be cancelled. Multiple sources have confirmed that Microsoft and Platinum games, the developers of the dragon stomping RPG action, ceased their collaboration on the much anticipated title and that development had actually been halted before the new year.
Gaming news gurus Kotaku reached out to Microsoft who sent a very brief statement, simply saying “We’ll have more to share on ‘Scalebound’ soon”. It’s long been rumoured that the title, one of our most anticipated since its unveiling at E3 in 2014, was stuck well within Dev Hell, and it certainly looks like the title, which was slated for release this year, may never see the light of day. After a huge amount of work has already gone into the co-op RPG we’re certainly hoping that the rumours can be put to bed by Microsoft before too long, and of course we’ve reached out for comment to both Microsoft and Platinum Games, and we’ll let you know, as soon as we do.
ADDENDUM – Microsoft have confirmed in a release to Polygon that the game will be cancelled
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to Polygon. “We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”
